| Academic Overview Sixth grade emphasizes reading comprehension and vocabulary, parts of speech and grammar, basic mathematical operations with whole numbers and fractions, and money management. History and science instruction includes an examination of how God has moved in these areas. Other subject areas in the sixth grade include: Bible, computer, art, physical education, and band/choral. Students continue their experiences in creative writing, spelling, geography and science fair competition at the sixth grade level. Seventh grade focuses on developing Christ-like characteristics which is emphasized in seventh grade Bible class. Students continue refining their skills in creative writing, oral presentations, grammar, reading comprehension and vocabulary. Basic mathematical operations include whole numbers, using variables, geometry, solving equations and more. Seventh graders also study world geography, science, computer, physical education, health, art, band and chorus. Students participate in spelling, geography, writing and either science fair or cultural project competitions. Eighth grade continues to refine skills in writing, speaking, reading and vocabulary. At this level, the students have either pre-algebra or Algebra 1. High school credit will be awarded to eighth grade students who take Algebra I, band or a foreign language. The students do an in-depth study of American history and how God moved in bringing about our homeland. Other subject areas are science, computer, physical education, Bible, Spanish I, finance, art and band or chorus. Students participate in spelling, writing, geography and science competitions, and visit the Junior Achievement Finance Park. |
